In short, anyone can create a playlist on Spotify, however, with Collaborative Playlists, it takes a lot of promotion and effort to gain real fans on top of artists and record labels who are placing their songs as well.
The Curators of these playlists help artists to gain massive exposure simply by being on a playlist.

Once you have your music on Spotify. Promote it across your socials, as more and more people listen to your tunes and add them to their own playlists, Spotify’s own algorithm is more likely to identify your track to appear on Discover Weekly. However, nothing beats being added to lots of well followed playlists. Collaborative playlists can help with this…
Every Spotify listener will receive Release Radar playlists after around 2 weeks of listening. Spotify’s own algorithm is analysing what you listen to, how long you listen to it and what you typically skip. It also calculates follows and saves.
This means the more people who listen to your music, the more the likelihood your tracks will be added to other listeners Release Radars. If you are using the Spotify App and can’t see your Release Radar, try restarting or updating your app. You can also try it on another device. They should appear under the Made For You section of the app. You can find here more info about the Release Radar.
Spotify creates up to six playlists for you based on your own listening history. Each playlist is differentiated by a unique colour and generally spans a single genre or theme.
There are a lot of similarities here for how Spotify creates you Daily Mix with it’s Release Radar, however, they are more based upon the tracks you play and the playlists and artists you follow. Following Collaborative Playlists and adding your tracks to these playlists will improve your chances on getting onto other listeners’ Daily Mixes.
Spotify Playlists are like the radio stations of old – the more playlists your track(s) get placed on, the more likely you will gain a foothold in Spotify’s own Daily Mix and Release Radar placement algorithm. As well as this, curators of well followed playlists and Editorial Playlists may add your tracks as well.
